College Student Points to $1 Taylor Swift Sexual Assault Verdict in Free Speech Case

A $1 award won by pop star Taylor Swift during a 2017 sexual assault case was cited during oral arguments in a recent “freedom of speech” lawsuit before the Supreme Court. So reports The Hill.

dollar 1161782 640.jpegThe award in the 2017 case was used to justify college student Chike Uzuegbunam’s request for “nominal damages” after suing Georgia Gwinnett College for ordering him to cease “professing his Christian faith on campus grounds.”

The school has since relaxed its strict speech code and the school wants the cases tossed. However, Uzuegbunam has forged ahead with hopes he could secure a similar verdict.
