The injunction was not based on the merits of the case and is effective for only the duration of the litigation over the contraception-insurance mandate in the lower courts.
Obamacare already exempts from the contraception-insurance mandate religious institutions such as houses of worship that mainly serve and employ members of their own faith. Because it does not, however, entirely exempt schools, hospitals and charitable organizations that employ people of all faiths, many Catholic groups including the plaintiffs in this case have filed suit.
