Civil Rights Icon to Have Pinellas County Law Library Named in His Honor

Fred G. Minnis, the first full-time Black lawyer to practice in Pinellas County, will have the county’s law library named in his honor. So reports the Tampa Bay Times.

bookshelf 1082309 640Minnis, who died 30 years ago, was a civil rights icon in the area and the vote to bestow his name on the library came unanimously from the Pinellas County Commission. Among his notable accomplishments, “Minnis represented students arrested for participating in sit-ins at the Webb’s City lunch counter and argued a case to integrate county-owned golf courses,” according to the article.
