As the result of a suspension related to the incident, the Virginia middle school student has so far missed a month of classes. She says that, when she threw the vegetable in the school hallway at one of her former teachers, she never expected it to hit the teacher in the face.

For someone to be guilty of battery, the law does not require the victim to have suffered actual injury, according to a legal expert contacted by the station. The touch must only be found “offensive.”
