CA Legalizes Physician-Assisted Suicide for Terminally Ill Patients

Beginning in 2016, physicians may provide lethal prescriptions to mentally competent adults who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness that is expected to kill them within six months. So reports the Los Angeles Times.

The bill that California governor Jerry Brown signed to make physician-assisted suicide legal is called the End of Life Option Act, and it was modeled after a similar law in Oregon. In that state, 752 patients have used lethal prescriptions to bring about their deaths in the last 17 years.
