Miss USA Contestant to Pay $5M for Calling Pageant 'Rigged'

A federal judge has upheld a $5 million judgment against a 2012 Miss USA Pageant contestant who claimed—on her Facebook page and on the Today show—that the pageant is “rigged,” with the top five finishers all predetermined. So reports the Daily News.


In his opinion, the judge wrote that the contestant, 28-year-old Sheena Monnin, “undeniably is suffering from her poor choice of counsel,” who didn’t attend the arbitration in which Monnin was first ordered to pay the $5 million and presented no evidence on her behalf. The $5 million represents a sponsorship that the pageant lost as a result of Monnin's allegations.
