Jane Doe Student Cites ADA in Lawsuit Over Food, Gum Chewing in Class

An unnamed student at L&N Stem Academy in Tennessee is suing Knox County for failing to make “reasonable accommodations” for her misophonia, which she says is triggered by the sound of food and gum chewing. So reports WBIR-TV, an NBC affiliate.

chewing gum gcb9ab6d63 640The “Jane Doe” is in ninth grade and has filed the suit in federal court. She argues the disorder, and subsequent lack of mitigation by the district, is causing her to miss approximately “half her educational time” in addition to causing emotional and physical exhaustion.
