UIC Law School Drops John Marshall’s Name Over Slave Trading History

The University of Illinois Board of Trustees put the final stamp of approval on an official name change for the UIC John Marshall Law School. So reports UIC Today.

The school opted to move away from associating with former-Chief Justice John Marshall due to “newly discovered research regarding his role as a slave trader, slave owner of hundreds of slaves, pro-slavery jurisprudence, and racist views [that] render him a highly inappropriate namesake for the Law School.”
