Maryland Lawyer Makes Race-related Complaint Against Deputy Who Detained Him

Rashad James, a black lawyer who works at the Maryland Legal Aid’s community lawyering initiative, said he was improperly detained by a deputy who suspected James was not actually a lawyer. So reports The New York Times.

As such, James has filed a complaint with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and said he thinks the detention was “racially motivated.” While at a court hearing, James was detained for 10 to 15 minutes while his identity was confirmed.
