Program Aims to Decrease NYPD Suits, Settlements
New York City has begun hiring a group of 30 lawyers tasked with identifying lawsuits filed in state court against the city’s police department that it can likely win at trial, Reuters reports.
The goal is to reduce the number of cases that are settled out of court that shouldn’t be. The plan is modeled after a similar federal initiative, which coincided with a decrease in the number of federal cases brought against the police department.
