The families asked to be allowed to reargue that Remington is liable for a Bushmaster AR-15 finding its way into the hands of shooter Adam Lanza. Connecticut Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis initially threw out the lawsuit, ruling Remington is protected from liability by federal statute.
However, the families' attorneys contend the case warrants consideration by the state's highest court. The appeal is aimed at the “negligent entrustment” legal concept, and makes the case the gun should not have been sold to Lanza’s mother, Nancy. Representatives from Remington had no comment.
