RNC Protest Guidelines Struck Down

A federal judge struck down rules aimed at protesters of the upcoming Republican National Convention in Cleveland. So reports Politico.

The Ohio branch of the American Civil Liberties Union brought the suit against the city of Cleveland, claiming restrictions dictating the actions of protectors inside the “event zone” are unconstitutional. Those restrictions would have banned certain items like “large backpacks, tape and string, and limit where within the 3.5 square mile zone demonstrators can speak and hold a parade,” the story reads.

Judge James Gwin said the event zone was too large and took issue with times parades were permitted and limitations on the use of municipal parks. The city indicated it is planning to appeal, but a settlement regarding new restrictions could be on the horizon.
