Pi Delta Psi’s chapter at Baruch, a public commuter school in Manhattan, was founded to help the children of Asian-American immigrants to make their way through college. But at a retreat that took place in the Pocono Mountains, more than 100 miles away from campus, Deng was blindfolded and assaulted to the point of unconsciousness. The fraternity members decided not to call an ambulance after determining that the cost would be too high, and finally drove Deng to the hospital after he’d been unconscious for an hour.
