Missouri Executes Elderly, Brain-Injured Murderer

Missouri has executed Cecil Clayton, a 74-year-old murder convict who was missing part of his brain from a sawmill accident that he suffered more than a decade before he committed the crime. So reports the Associated Press.

Clayton had been convicted of the 1996 shooting death of a 29-year-old sheriff’s deputy. Clayton never received a competency hearing despite his lawyers’ contention that the sawmill accident cost him part of the portion of his brain that controls impulse and judgment.
