The prenup was signed by New York gallery owner Nathalie Karg before her marriage to Anton Kern, the son of famed painter Georg Kern Baselitz, whose work is exhibited at MoMA and the Guggenheim. Karg claims that she understood that, by signing the prenup, she forfeited only her rights to her in-laws'’ fortune.
The agreement that she signed, however, provides that—upon divorce—she forfeits her right to her husband’s own millions. In a Manhattan court hearing, Baselitz admitted that he never provided Karg with a written translation of the document, and was not concerned with whether or nor she understood German.
