Ex-Doughnut Plant Manager Sues Store For Discrimination Over Pregnancy

A former personnel manager of two New York City Doughnut Plant stores has filed an employment discrimination lawsuit against the company for demoting her and ultimately firing her after she told the company’s owners that she was pregnant. So reports DNA Info

The plaintiff, 30-year-old Mekhala Sofsky, claims Doughnut Plant executives were pleased with her work until she announced her pregnancy, and that—soon after they learned of it—they began unfoundedly criticizing her performance.

She further claims that just weeks before her scheduled maternity leave she was demoted to supervisor and told she wouldn’t be entitled to health insurance when she returned. Sofsky says she was fired five days after her lawyer sent Doughnut Plant a letter demanding that they stop discriminating against her.
