Litigation Financing Gaining Acceptance in the U.S.

The U.S. legal system is growing increasingly hospitable to investment firms that bankroll high-stakes lawsuits over business disputes in exchange for a cut of the proceeds. So repots The Wall Street Journal.

Opponents of the practice, known as “litigation financing,” argue that it has the potential to encourage frivolous lawsuits, and that—by permitting it—the U.S. legal system runs the risk of allowing litigation financers to become inappropriately influential over decisions.
