From Meta to medical malpractice to truck drivers, here are some of the most notable verdicts from the month of February 2023.

Most Meta Verdict: Judge Rules Patent Infringement Decision Against Meta Will Stand

A federal judge rejected a bid by Meta Platforms to toss a $175 million verdict levied against the technology giant, according to an article from Yahoo! Finance. As such, the jury finding that Meta infringed on two patents from app maker Voxer related to livestream technology used on Instagram and Facebook will stand. Meta can appeal the Texas judge’s verdict.

SnapchatMost Snapped Verdict: Semi-truck Driver Has Homicide Verdict Overturned After Victim Found on Snapchat Prior to Crash

Truck driver Jaspreet Singh, who was convicted of reckless homicide, had that conviction overturned by the Indiana Court of Appeals after new evidence indicates the victim was using Snapchat moments before a deadly crash involving Singh, according to an article from WBIW. Singh was backing his semi-truck up on U.S. 35 as the now-deceased driver had apparently been using the platform, going more than 75 miles per hour and failed to apply the brakes ahead of the crash. That evidence was improperly withheld during the initial trial, the appeals court found.

Most Medical Verdict: J&J Vaginal-device Case Won’t Go To SCOTUS

A $302 million marketing verdict against Johnson & Johnson will stand after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a bid to review the matter, according to an article from MedTech Dive. The suit against the pharmaceutical company was brought by the state of California, which alleged J&J misrepresented risks associated with its vaginal-mesh implants. The company previously settled claims in 45 other states as well as the District of Columbia.

Most Split Verdict: One Guilty in Nurse Shooting After Bizarre 2020 Road Rage Incident

Devaunte Hill was found guilty of second-degree murder for killing nurse Caitlyn Kaufman, while James Cowan was cleared of all charges, according to an article from News Channel 5 Nashville. Hill was found to have fired the fatal shot two years ago during an apparent “road rage” incident on I-440. Cowan, on the other hand, was found to have still been in their vehicle during the shooting and, as such, was acquitted.

Most Athletic Verdict: Ex-Eagles Star Wins $43.5M After Doctors Ignore Meniscus Damage

Doctors treating a former captain of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, Chris Maragos, were found medically negligent in the treatment of his 2017 knee injury, according to an article from The Philadelphia Inquirer.
