Family of NHL Enforcer Sues League for Wrongful Death

The National Hockey League is being sued by the family of Derek Boogaard, a professional ice hockey player who made his living as an enforcer and died of an accidental overdose in 2011, the New York Times reports.

The suit alleges Boogard, who was posthumously diagnosed with a brain disease caused by repeated blows to the head, was provided copious amounts of prescription pain medications and other drugs by NHL teams’ physicians and staff to combat the injuries and pain he endured.
