Judge Rejects Argument That Cutting Off Subsidies Threaten Health Insurance Market

U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria criticized the argument brought forth by California’s attorney, who is leading a coalition demanding the federal government reinstate cut off “Obamacare” subsidies. Chhabria claims states have already mitigated the impact of the lost subsidies. So reports the Associated Press.

However, a representative for the state of California said despite the individual state’s workarounds, losing the subsidies created "uncertainty and chaos" that might lead to insurance companies opting out of Obamacare and causing health insurance markets to fall apart.

Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, along with the District of Columbia joined California in the lawsuit.
