Two separate juries failed to reach a unanimous verdict and Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said he will be dropping the case against defendant Ray Tensing. Tensing, who is white, shot Sam DuBose, who was black, after pulling him over for having a missing front license plate in 2015. DuBose said he feared he would be killed.
The case sparked petitions both for and against a third trial. The case has been referred to federal prosecutors to determine if DuBose’s civil rights were violated.
