DOJ Declines to Charge Cops Involved in Alton Sterling Killing  

Federal prosecutors said there is not enough evidence to bring civil rights charges against officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II. So reports CNN

The Baton Rouge police officers’ fate is now in the hands of Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, who will determine if state charges are in order. Sterling was killed by police last summer.

A cellphone video showed Sterling, who was black, pinned down by white officers before being shot. Police said Sterling was attempting to pull out a gun.

State police will lead an investigation with assistance from a state Department of Justice prosecutor. Members of Sterling’s family were unhappy with the decision, but said they do not believe the matter is settled.
