LGBTQ Advocates Express Concern with NC 'Bathroom Bill' Repeal

North Carolina lawmakers agreed to repeal the state’s “bathroom bill,” although some LGBTQ advocates said the compromise leaves the door open to discrimination. So reports NBC News.

The initial bill, which prevented municipal governments from passing laws to allow transgendered people to use the bathroom of their choosing, led to “political and financial backlash and a showdown with the NCAA,” as some groups boycotted North Carolina.

LGBTQ advocates criticized the compromise, in part, because of a three-year ban on local non-discrimination ordinances included in the agreement. According to information from the Associated Press cited in the story, “canceled conventions, concerts and sports events have deprived the state of more than $196 million.”
