Lt. Gov. of Texas Pushes Bathroom Gender Restrictions

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick of Texas laid out a proposal to require people to use restrooms correlating with their birth gender in state and local government facilities as well as public schools. So reports The Wall Street Journal.

Patrick unveiled his plan right before the Texas state Legislature was set to begin session. He said the legislation would protect children and those using public bathrooms.

Opposition to the bill includes some business groups worried it would drive companies away from Texas, while others consider it discriminatory. A similar law in North Carolina faces a lawsuit from President Obama’s administration. Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst is the bill’s primary sponsor.
