Mother of Boy Shot by Off-Duty Baltimore Cop Awarded $30K

Baltimore County and an apartment rental company reached a $30,000 settlement with the mother of a boy who was shot by an off-duty police officer working security at a Randallstown apartment building. So reports The Baltimore Sun.

The boy was playing in an empty apartment when the officer’s gun discharged,. The officer, Ellis Temple, said the gun fired by accident. The county and the apartment complex will split the settlement down the middle.

Temple and another off-duty officer were called to investigate a report of people inside a vacant apartment and Temple told police his gun accidentally fired while he was pointing it at the apartment’s balcony. The boy’s mother, Talannia Wilds, said her son was shot in the back and shoulder, had bullet fragments in his head, was prescribed pain medication and developed emotional problems from the incident. No criminal files were charged against Temple.
