Publishers, YouTube Find Common Ground on Royalties

YouTube announced a settlement with the National Music Publishers’ Association, regarding unpaid songwriting royalties. So reports The New York Times.

The settlement is estimated at $40 million, although neither side in the matter commented on the exact amount. The publishers’ association has worked toward identifying missing information about songwriters and the publishers that represent them, which has become a persistent problem.

This agreement will give some publishers access to songs YouTube has missing or partial data on and YouTube will pay out royalties from a dedicated fund to compensate the proper parties.
