The waiter, 27-year-old William Powell, drew his boss’s suspicion when his beverage sales were significantly lower than other wait staff working the same shift and schedule. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Powell serving the average number of beverages despite his especially low registered drink sales.
Powell claims he gave out the beverages to help thirsty people in need, but a law enforcement source says the waiter was motivated by the prospect of larger tips. Powell, who has been charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and petit larceny, is due back in court on May 11.
