Cheerleaders Seek Free Speech Protection For Bible Verse Banners

A cheerleading squad in Texas has asked that state’s Supreme Court to declare that their Bible-scripture-inscribed banners qualify as protected speech. So reports CBS News.

The cheerleaders’ school formerly banned the banners as a result of objections raised by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Though a court has since ruled that the squad may carry the banners, that court did not clarify whether banning the banners violates the cheerleaders’ free speech.
