Judge Holds ‘Black Swan’ Internships Violated Labor Laws

A federal judge last week held that Fox Searchlight violated minimum wage and overtime laws by making unpaid interns on the movie Black Swan perform the work of paid employees, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The judge held that the interns qualified as employees because they had "provid[ed] an immediate advantage to their employer and performed low-level tasks not requiring specialized training." The judge also certified a class action that will explore internships throughout the corporate departments at Fox Entertainment Group.
